How the Species Camellia reticulata Came to America from China
Educational presentations concentrate on a variety of camellia topics during the Festival of Camellias at Massee Lane Gardens.On Wednesday, February 19, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. Camellia hybridizer, Randolph Maphis of Tallahassee, Florida, will share the story of how plants of the species Camellia reticulata were imported into California from Kunming, Yunnan province.China in March 1948.The popular reticulata hybrids in the United States today are all descendants of those imported camellias. Reticulatas are known for big, tall blooms, ranging from five to nice inches wide and several inches tall.The presentation is free with garden admission but requires advanced registration. Email amccleese@americancamellias.org your name, phone number and the number in your party to make reservations.Call (478) 422-6355 to order a boxed lunch to eat after the presentation.Camellia plants will be on sale throughout the season and during each event.
