Annual horse show is chamber's biggest fundraiser.

Chamber Horse Show

The Chamber's second annual horse show was Saturday, April 14. The first show, in July, raised $5,700, making it the Chamber's largest fund-raiser by far. The event was moved from July to April for milder weather.

The horse show was at Southern Valley Ranch on 4764 River Road, off Ga. Hwy. 49 about five miles south of Fort Valley. The Chamber expected about 100 contestants and about 300 spectators at the all-day event. CLICK HERE for driving directions.

For those who might think a horse show primarily involves contestants leading horses around a ring, the Peach County show is a little more spectator-oriented.

Among the events are a toilet-paper race, in which pairs of riders gallop with toilet paper stretched between them, with the object being to get to the finish line without breaking the toilet paper.

In the egg-and-spoon race, riders have to bend over and pluck an egg off the ground with a spoon, without getting off the horse, and then bring it back to the finish line without dropping it.

Barrel racing is also part of the show. A total of 53 classes are included in the show.

Pre-registration is not necessary, as contestants can sign up the day of the event. The entry fee is $8. Anyone needing further information may contact the chamber at 478-825-3733. Food and beverages will be served all day.
